Fifth Grade

 May 2008

 

MATH-    This month students will continue to work from their math books. We will finish up any units that we feel may benefit them before PACT. The students will also do some enrichment activities and problem solving strategies. Parents please continue to help your child memorize his/her multiplication facts.

 

Language Arts – Students will be reading novels or working on literary elements in the next couple of weeks before PACT. We will try to review all skills taught so far this year and work on test taking strategies for language arts. Fifth graders will participate in the school wide writing day to be held on May 5th. Students will practice the entire writing process needed to complete an essay.

 

Science-   Some students will be doing individual science experiments and others will be working out of the FOSS science kit on variables. Students will also finish the Force and Motion unit this month. We will also be reviewing PACT like science questions to prepare students for the upcoming tests.

 

Social Studies-    Students will finish up the unit on civil rights. We will prepare for PACT by reviewing what we have learned studied this year. Students will also practice test taking strategies associated with the Social Studies portion of the test. Please encourage your child read and study their notes and required information for continued success in school.  

 

Character Education-     Teachers and students will continue reviewing their classroom rules and procedures.

 

Parents please help your child maintain focus and concentration for the remainder of the school year. Have students on time, rested, and ready for school each day.
